Official Visit of the Minister of Agriculture of Armenia S.Karapetyan to India

On February 17-19, the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia Sergo Karapetyan paid official visit to the Republic of India.

On February 17, the Minister visited Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) where he was introduced to the scientific achievements of the institute in over one hundred years of its existence and current activities. The Minister also visited experimental fields and got acquainted with the results of the scientific experiments on the spot.

On February 19, Minister S. Karapetyan had a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of India Radha Mohan Singh. During the meeting the parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in the field of agriculture.

Radha Mohan Singh highlighted the importance of the visit for the development of bilateral economic ties and expressed hope that it would promote realization of the potential for cooperation in the agriculture sector between the two countries.

At the end of the meeting. Minister S. Karapetyan invited his counterpart to visit Armenia.

Within the framework of the visit, two ministers signed the Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare of the Republic of India on Cooperation in the Field of Agriculture. The agreement would promote cooperation between the two countries in various areas of agriculture sector.

On the same day, Minister Karapetyan held meetings at the Embassy of Armenia in New Delhi with the manufacturers of agricultural machinery as well as wine importers. The Minister discussed the possibilities of procurement of agricultural machinery and prospects of export of Armenian drinks for introduction in the Indian market.

Indian businessman participated at the testing of Armenian wines and got familiarized with the wine varieties introduced by Armenian wine producers.

The Minister also met the representatives of the Armenian community based in Delhi. He presented the objectives and outcomes of his visit, and answered their questions.
