06 July, 2017

On July 06, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia Armen Martirosyan presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Hamid.

During the private conversation after the presentation ceremony, President Abdul Hamid noted that even though this year marks the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Bangladesh, the historical ties between the peoples of two countries are over four centuries long. President Hamid emphasized the special cultural contributions of Armenians in Bengal and pointed out several remarkable examples. In particular, he noted that the first Bengali school, which functions as an educational establishment till date, was founded by Armenians, Armenian Apostolic Church of the Holy Resurrection (built in 1781) is active in Dhaka today, the Armenian distinct Armaniatola and Armenian Street are located in the centre of the city, while the area occupied by the presidential estate today belonged the Armenian merchant named Manuk two centuries ago.

In conclusion, President Abdul Hamid requested Ambassador to convey his warm greeting and best wishes to the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan. Expressing gratitude for warm reception and good wishes, Ambassador Armen Martirosyan noted that the historical ties between the peoples of two countries allow a new impetus to the further development of bilateral ties.
