Kolkata's Armenian College marks 197th Anniversary

On April 02, the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy of Kolkata celebrated 197th anniversary of its establishment. This oldest educational institution of the Armenian Diaspora was founded in 1821 by the initiative of the prominent representatives of the Armenian community of India Astvatsatur Muradkhanyan and Mnatsakan Vardanyan. Around 70 students from Armenia and Diaspora receive high-quality education at the college today.

The leaders of the Kolkata churches, diplomats, representatives of the Armenian community and Ambassador of Armenia in India Armen Martirosyan attended the event.

In his speech, Ambassador Martirosyan cited the Decree of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia awarding the wardens of the Church Committee of the Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth Mr Sunil Sobti and Mrs Suzan Rouben with the medal of Vazgen Sargsyan, in recognition of their personal contribution for organization of medical treatment of the military men wounded during the combat operations in Artsakh and support of their families. The official award ceremony will be held in the capital city Yerevan shortly.

Students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance were awarded with certificates and souvenirs.
