Conference on Armenian Genocide organized in New Delhi

On April 24, the Conference on the Armenian Genocide titled "Politics of Memory in Armenia” took place at New Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

The conference was jointly organized by JNU’s School of International Studies and New Delhi’s Armenian Cultural Centre NGO on the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The University faculty members, professors, students, Indian intelligentsia, members of the Armenian community in New Delhi as well as the representatives of the Armenian Embassy in India participated at the event.

The participants of the conference paid tribute to the memory of the victims of Armenian Genocide with a moment of silence.

The Rector of the University Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra inaugurated the conference with a speech on Armenian Genocide.

Then Ambassador of Armenia to India Armen Martirosyan delivered a statement which presented the historical and geopolitical aspects of the Armenian Genocide, as well as Armenia's approach to overcoming the consequences of the Genocide.

The Chairman of the Centre for Russian and Central Asian Studies of JNU’s School of International Studies Professor Phool Badan, Professor Amitabh Singh, who recently visited Armenia and delivered lectures at Yerevan State University and Diplomatic Academy of Armenia, writer-publicist Suman Keshari, the President of the Armenian Cultural Centre Gayane Movsisyan, BBC - India journalist Satish Jakob, editor of the well-known “Hans” Indian literary magazine Sanjay Sahay and others delivered speeches.

The event was concluded with Candlelight Vigil for the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.
